Rules & Policies

These rules and guidelines apply to all students and parents at Jalandhar Public School, Lohian Khas, and are intended to help maintain a safe, disciplined and supportive environment for every child.

Discipline

  • Discipline is the first and foremost priority. Students must come to school on time and be in their respective classroom at least five minutes before the first bell rings.
  • Regularity and punctuality is an education in itself. Attendance adding up to 80% of the total working days is compulsory for all students. Students with 100% attendance will be given due recognition. Long absence without leave shall terminate a child’s admission; readmission will be subject to the Principal’s discretion.
  • All students should come to school in a proper, neat and clean uniform, with shoes properly polished and nails evenly cut. A student who comes to school in an improper, unclean or dirty uniform will be fined.
  • Valuable articles and money should not be brought to school. Mobile phones are not allowed on the school premises; if a student is found carrying one, it will be confiscated and not returned.
  • All belongings (books, notebooks, tiffins, water bottles, uniform articles) must bear the owner’s name. The school will not be responsible for any such items that get lost.
  • Students must participate in all school activities and functions. In case of unavoidable absence, an application signed by the parents and stating the reason should be submitted to the school office at least three days in advance, failing which the student will be fined.
  • All students are expected to take care of school property and abide by the rules and regulations framed by the school. Any violation will be looked into and dealt with seriously.
  • Politeness and respect are expected from every member of the school community. Rude or argumentative behaviour with teachers or seniors, and bullying of any kind, will be strictly dealt with.
  • Students should complete their work on time and adhere to timelines for assignments and projects.
  • Continuous evaluation of each student is carried out through classroom activities, completion of work, behaviour, participation and attendance, and is reflected in the child’s annual progress report.

The Principal reserves the right to refuse continuation of studies to a student whose conduct or influence is found unsatisfactory.

Examination

The school conducts regular examination schedules to assess the academic progress and development of each student.

Leave and Absence

  • A student who has been absent from class must have the reason entered in the Regularity Record, briefly stating the cause of absence or delay. Reasons of a private nature may be submitted in a letter. Leave of absence is not granted except with prior written application from the parent or guardian.
  • A student who arrives late must show the teacher-in-charge their Regularity Record, duly signed by the Principal, in order to be admitted to the classroom.
  • Repeated absence without a leave application for more than five consecutive days may result in the student’s name being struck off the rolls; readmission, if granted, will be subject to a re-admission fee.
  • All students are expected to be present on the opening day of the school session. Students who return late after a holiday will be fined, except in case of illness certified by a doctor.
  • No student is allowed to leave the school premises during school hours; letters from parents in this regard will not be entertained.
  • A student returning to school after an infectious or contagious disease should produce a doctor’s certificate permitting him/her to do so.

Recommended leave period for common infectious illnesses

  • Cholera — till the child has fully recovered
  • Measles — two weeks after the rash disappears

  • Whooping Cough — six weeks
  • Jaundice — six weeks after recovery

Parental Co-operation

  • Parents and guardians are not allowed to walk into a class or contact a teacher during or after school hours. In case of urgency, a prior appointment should be taken with the Principal’s permission.
  • Parents should ensure the regularity and punctuality of their children and take interest in their day-to-day academic and co-curricular activities.
  • Parents should check the school diary daily, sign it, note the teacher’s remarks and take necessary action.
  • Parents are expected to attend every Parent-Teacher Meeting to discuss their child’s progress, and to co-operate with teachers for the child’s overall development.
  • Parents should encourage their children to participate enthusiastically in every activity conducted by the school.
  • Parents should help their children develop a habit of self-study and reading, and ensure assigned work is completed within the allotted time.

Transport

  • The school provides a safe transport facility to students, with stoppages fixed at the nearest accessible point to each student’s residence.
  • No child will be allowed to change their allotted bus without prior intimation to the school office.
  • Students are expected to travel with proper discipline on the bus. Damage to bus seats, use of unfair language or fighting will be taken seriously and an appropriate fine charged to those found responsible.
  • Eating on the bus is not allowed, and littering inside or outside the buses is not permitted.
  • Students may not come to school on their own bikes or cars; they must travel by bicycle, be dropped off by parents, or use the school transport.
  • Transport fee is charged on a nominal, monthly basis along with the tuition fee. To discontinue transport, written information must be given to the school office; bus fees will continue to be charged until the office is informed in writing.
  • A child will not be allowed to leave with friends or relatives from school without written approval from the parents to the school office.
  • Any query or complaint regarding the transport system should be directed to the school office on any working day.

Visiting Hours

  • Parents and visitors are not allowed to meet a teacher or student in class, and no teacher will be called out of class to meet parents or take phone calls. In an emergency, permission must be taken from the Principal.
  • The second Saturday of every month is reserved for the Parent-Teacher Meeting to discuss students’ progress. All parents are expected to attend.

Withdrawal

Before withdrawing a student from the school, a proper application stating the reason for withdrawal, signed by the parents, should be submitted at the school office. A School Leaving Certificate will be issued only after all dues have been cleared.
